Random encounters are a type of battle that randomly occur while the party travels around on the world map or within a dungeon. They are are a staple of RPG games in general, and most of their Final Fantasy-related appearances are in the main Final Fantasy series. It is possible for the party to avoid random encounters through certain means, usually by riding on a Chocobo or an airship.
