Final Fantasy VI is the sixth main installment in the Final Fantasy series, developed and published by Squaresoft. It was released in April 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan, and released as Final Fantasy III in North America in October 1994. It was co-directed by Yoshinori Kitase and Hiroyuki Itou, taking over from Hironobu Sakaguchi, with Nobuo Uematsu composing the score and Yoshitaka Amano providing image design. Final Fantasy VI is the last game in the main series to feature two-dimensional graphics.
- Final Fantasy's name is derived from the fact that Hironobu Sakaguchi originally planned for it to be his last game.
- Cloud Strife has the most recurring appearances out of any main protagonist in the Final Fantasy series.
- Final Fantasy X was the first game in the franchise to have voice acting.
- Final Fantasy VI was the first game to include hidden party members.
- Torgal's moves in Final Fantasy XVI were inspired by the Assist mechanic in Marvel vs. Capcom 2.
- The iconic Prelude song was created in 5 minutes.

- June 4, 2025: Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles announced, launches on multiple platforms September 30.
- May 30, 2025: War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius withdrawn from Global following poor performance.
